Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's daughter, wants to change her name to distance herself from her father, at least in terms of her name.
On her 18th birthday on Monday, Shiloh filed paperwork in the Los Angeles County Superior Court to remove "Pitt" from her full name. The petition, reviewed by The Times, states that the teenager, whose current full name is Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, wishes to be called "Shiloh Nouvel Jolie."
A person speaking for Jolie didn't reply right away when The Times asked for a comment. Someone representing Pitt didn't say anything about the petition. Shiloh, who was born on May 27, 2006 in Swakopmund, Namibia, is one of the six children of the famous couple Jolie and Pitt. She's the oldest of their three biological children. The couple also has kids named Maddox, Pax, Zahara, and twins Knox and Vivienne. Shiloh, who acted in "Kung Fu Panda 3", wanted to change her name because her parents were having a long, difficult divorce. In September 2016, Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt shortly after they reportedly had a fight on a private plane returning from Europe. Some of their kids were said to be involved in the incident, according to an FBI report. Details about the 2016 fight came out in a lawsuit Jolie filed against the FBI in 2022.
Adding to the challenge of finalizing Jolie and Pitt's lengthy divorce is more legal disagreement regarding their Chateau Miraval winery and their previous family residence. In February 2022, Pitt took legal action against Jolie and her company, Nouvel, claiming that she sold her part of their winery without his agreed consent. Pitt alleged that Jolie did this to gain profits she didn't deserve and returns on an investment she didn't contribute.
In October 2022, Jolie responded with a counterclaim. Earlier this year, her legal team requested Pitt's communications related to a broad nondisclosure agreement supposedly linked to the sale. Despite being legally single since 2019, Jolie and Pitt haven't finished sorting out their divorce arrangements.
Shiloh might be the first of Jolie and Pitt's children to officially change her name through the court, but some of her siblings have also publicly stopped using their father's last name in recent times. In a video from Essence in 2023, Zahara can be seen introducing herself as "Zahara Marley Jolie" while mentioning her membership in the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College. Similarly, 15-year-old Vivienne didn't include "Pitt" in her Playbill credit for the musical "The Outsiders," which was produced by her mother, as reported by People this week.
